The Emperor As a Baby
This picture was taken at the department holiday party in December by PB, one of our colleagues.
That is Benny Ray's elven emperor Santa suit. It's fleece. It's warm.

Benny Ray Has a Tooth!
Although you can't really see it here:
This little incipient tooth is just barely visible, poking out of his bottom gums. In order to detect it you must either put a finger in his mouth and run it along his gums (a process that he is not totally averse to), or hold his head steady while you immobilize his tongue and push down his lower lip (he is more averse to this method of tooth detection).
This news was met with simultaneous pleasure and sadness on the part of his parents. Pleasure, because the little white cap appearing out of his gums is so damn cute. Sadness, because he is getting bigger too quickly! We love that toothless grin too much to give it up so soon!
(Also, his mother has begun to imagine unpleasant scenarios involving teeth and nipples.)

This Is How We Get the Work Done
Who says babies and computing don't go together?
And just so everyone doesn't think that it is always cold and snowy here, on Monday and Tuesday it got up into the 60s and all the snow melted. It was just like Spring. We raked some leaves and took a walk around the block and checked out the massively high level of the St. Joseph River.
The warm weather would have warmed our hearts more if it were not also a harbinger of the tragic inevitability of global warming and the end of life (and life forms) as we know it.
Just kidding, y'all! Don't fret. Global warming isn't really happening! We can all just keep driving around and creating garbage!

New Years Resolution: Stay Warm
So, it snowed all day and part of the night. That is really great news for the neighborhood kids, since we have one of the best sledding hills in the county right here in the park next door. At one point yesterday we counted fifteen people on it. We are looking forward to sledding with Benny Ray one day.
Here is our hallway window, with frozen condensation. While yesterday's temperature was a balmy 33, this morning we are looking forward to a day in the sub-20s.

Our pathway leading leading to the street, shoveled with care by Amagomundi staff. This is so our mail carrier can make it to our front door.

We haven't gone anywhere since New Year's Eve, when we enjoyed a lovely potluck at Clyde's house. That's when it started snowing. We are glad indeed that we have a refrigerator full of good things to eat and drink, including a nice beef stew with olives that we made in our lovely Le Creuset cast iron pot, courtesy of Dilettante and company. (Yes, we know Dilettante. She is good people. So let this be our official electronic shout-out: "That pot makes good stew, baby!") The official name of the recipe is "Beef Stew with Black Olives." Here is a link, should any of our readers be inclined to make it: Boo-ya. It tastes very good served over mashed potatoes.
