Christmas Elfo

Apparently there is benevolent Christmas ghost, named Ethan, who finds your presents and other lost items for you. He is not to be confused with the kid named Ethan (also imaginary) who bites and kicks and scratches you.

Toddlers are confusing.

Joaquin's Fans at the NC Museum of Art

I'm glad this picture came out because it captures a very interesting cultural exchange that Joaquin enjoyed at least three times with these ladies during our visit to the NC Museum of Art last month. The only thing they appeared to be able to say in English was "Joaquin," which they would repeat over and over again as they poked at his feet and belly whilst giggling.

We went on a pumpkin hunt two weeks ago and thought we should try out the slide. Joaquin really liked it.

Spring Visitors Part One: Baby Soup

Here are some cute baby/toddler soup photos from the last Kaplan Durham visit this spring. Bath time and yummy "corpse revivers": a winning combination.

Favorite Part of the Day

My favorite part of yesterday occurred just before midnight, when Amy and I went down to the garage to check on the three chicks that we are taking care of this week. Through the garage window the orange-yellow glow of the warming lamp against the white wall made their little house look like a hearth fire. As we quietly approached to see if they were sleeping we realized that the chicks were excitedly feasting on the moths and cockroaches that had been attracted to the warmth and light. Amy and I each drew up a chair. We sat down and watched the chicks running back and forth, chirping playfully and contentedly. We sat there for half an hour, smiling and laughing while we imagined what the chicks must be saying to each other as they snapped up the bugs with their little yellow beaks, running from one end of the box to the other. I think Amy and I were both thinking about the same thing as we watched those baby poultry brothers at play.

Toddler Live-Blogging during 60 Minutes

Yay! What's this movie called?

He said "Helicopter!"

I like this movie!

Is that your present? [A replies, "No, president."]

Is this movie a present? [A replies, "No, that man is our president."]

Is Obama a president?

Is that a president, too? [Indicating Steve Kroft.]

He said "Killed."

He said "Trophies."

He said "Expert!" [New word he learned earlier today. Rad reinforcement of new knowledge.]

He said "Mission."

Before the torrential rain hit, and just previous to the tornado
warning in Alamance County we visited Beausol Gardens. We were on our
way to Chapel Hill Creamery when the weather started getting rough.
Now what?

What did I do?, originally uploaded by AmagoMundi.

To be this lucky? After a 12 hour day on campus, I came home to find
that there was a martini and spicy chips eating for me at the kitchen
table.

I love my wife.

A Dialogue I Overheard

A: If you eat all your dinner you can watch an episode of Muppets.

B: No. I want to watch Polar Express [pronounced Poelick Ickspress].

A: No, you can watch Muppets. Polar Express has been put away for the season.

B: Where did it go? Who took it? Where did you send it?

A: Santa took it.

B: Oh. [Beat.] Is he going to bring it back?
